Biography
Praised by The Washington Post for pianism "rich with emotional contrasts," and “hypnotic from the first note to the last note” by Die Rheinpfalz (Germany), Grace Eun Hae Kim has performed as recitalist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Kim has performed at venues such as Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Taiwan National Concert Hall, and has appeared as soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra, Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra, Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra, and Sioux City Symphony Orchestra.
Kim has won prizes in numerous competitions including the William Kapell International Piano Competition, Minnesota International Piano E-Competition, Washington International Competition, Iowa Piano Competition, Russell Wonderlic Piano Competition, and Corpus Christi International Competition and has made appearances at summer music festivals such as Aspen Music Festival, Fellbach Sommer Musik Festival, Banff International Keyboard Festival, Pianofest, and Bowdoin International Music Festival.
A passionate chamber musician, Kim collaborates frequently with musicians from the mid-Atlantic region and members of the Washington National Opera Orchestra. In spring of 2016, Kim was featured on the CD Exasperating Perpetuation released by Ravello Records, which includes a world premiere recording of Envisaging a Supercluster, a chamber work by composer John Leupold.
A dedicated educator, Kim currently serves on faculty at Loyola University Maryland and Georgetown University, and maintains a private studio in Baltimore. She previously taught at Washington College where she was also the founder and director of the concert series 12@Hotchkiss.
Kim’s artistry has been shaped in master classes with numerous world-renowned pedagogues including Leon Fleisher, Klaus Hellwig, Veda Kaplinsky, Nelita True, and Arie Vardi. Kim holds a Master and Bachelor of Music degrees from The Juilliard School where she studied with Herbert Stessin and Julian Martin, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Peabody Conservatory where she studied with Boris Slutsky.
